Typically, I don’t splurge on accommodations. That’s money that I’d rather spend on an exceptional meal or long-sought-after experience. Our road trip to Savannah, Georgia changed my mind. I dare you to be in your third trimester, well over 200 pounds, and spending each long night in the bed of a Days Inn.
Since becoming a mother (and even while pregnant) I think my days of staying in roach motels and hostels are, I’m happy and sad to say, behind me. Bring on the boutique aesthetic, cloud-like mattresses, and thrice vacuumed carpets PLEASE.
Southern Charm.
If you happen to be staying in Savannah, Georgia and you’re looking for a hotel that OOZES with southern charm and floors that are so clean you can eat off of them, you’ll want to book a stay at the Planter’s Inn at Reynold Square.
How many times can I legally use the phrase, ‘southern charm’ before a reader comes to my home and strangles me? But, really. This inn is the epitome!
From the mossy green colored walls to the homespun style curtains and linens on the four-poster beds to the dark wooden accented features – you’ll get the sense that you’ve arrived not only to the deep south but possibly back in time. We showed up in the evening for check-in. The sky was an ethereal lavender-blue hue and some foggy mist rolled into the area. We were hit with a sense of the beloved eeriness that Savannah exudes and this hotel only amplified that. The bygone hospitable service of the staff in the lobby and the high back Gilded age style chairs only adds to that.
Cheese!
I think my favorite part about this place has to be (hold your surprise) the evening wine and cheese socials. After a long, sweaty, day of exploring — its fun to shower, change, and head to the lobby where a seasoned pianist plays some soft melodies as you nosh on FREE CHEESE, FREE WINE, and mingle with the other guests. Or, don’t mingle and just sit in your chair and strategically keep choosing which cheese cubes to eat next. I didn’t get to sample the wine as per my carrying a human within me, but my husband sampled plenty for me.
The Planter’s Inn on Reynold’s Square is located close to a lot of major attractions. However, if you just want to sit in one of the infamous squares and like…drink a tea there’s one right outside of the door. If you don’t feel like hoofing it in the heat, you can arrange for a pedicab service (how freaking cute.) The inn is also located near the infamous Olde Pink House restaurant. You can order room service from there or pop in for a meal.
