Foreskin park, I MEAN Forsyth Park is totally worth checking out during your time in Savannah. And I’m really not into spending time in nature, so that’s saying something.
I’m ashamed to say that I found myself originally not caring at all if we saw Forsyth Park. I’ve seen parks, I’ve seen a lot of parks. Who cares if I don’t see this one? Well, I’m glad my outdoors loving husband decided that HE cared if we saw it.
Beauty and Charm.
Forsyth Park really gives you a sense of the old world beauty and southern Gulf charm for which Savannah, Georgia is infamous. There’s plenty of green grass and the grounds are immaculately manicured looking like they came out of a scene from Bridgerton. The Spanish moss trees create a wistful, romantic ambiance, and offer much needed shade on a hot, sunny, day.
This place is a fantastic spot for people watching, it seems as though there is always something happening, even if it’s just groups of young people playing pick-up Frisbee. When we went, there were a few people filming there. If a newly released movie taking place in the park comes out, be on the lookout for me and all my baby weight!
Forsyth Park is also a great place to pick up a free bible by a person who I’m sure definitely doesn’t hear voices. If you hate free stuff, you can pay $300 for a painting (albeit beautiful) created by an artist who draws inspiration from the park.
And the Farmer’s Market.
If you’re into locally sourced products, don’t forget to check out the Forsyth Park Farmer’s Market. The vendors offer an array of products from wild bee honey to fresh produce to cuts of meat. Some of the more unique vendors include a group who sells decorative edible flowers, a stand that sells Carolina plantation rice, and of course Alake’s Georgia Pecans.
There’s also a plethora of events at the park including 5K races, the Savannah Jazz Festival, Sidewalk Arts Festivals, and Picnic in the Park which features a free concert by the Savannah Philharmonic.
Feeling hungry? No worries. The Forsyth Cafe serves up light fare like sandwiches, salads, coffee and tea.
If you’re traveling with children, let them burn up some energy in the Forsyth Park Playground. It’s clean, modern, and fenced in. Not to mention, dreamy looking, almost as if from the pages of a children’s book with the drooping trees blowing in the wind and all.
Last, don’t forget to stop by the Fragrance Garden. It’s been around since the early 60’s and was created as a way for the blind to enjoy the park — by having wonderful smelling flowers to enjoy. The plant names sit on plaques which are written in standard English as well as Braille.
