Most people living in the United States will be familiar with the name Benjamin Franklin. He was America’s founding grandfather. He is also a real, original, Renaissance man. I think we are most fascinated perhaps because his talents and interests seem to be endless. He was a writer, diplomat, inventor, printer, and scientist. It’s not like he just ‘dabbled’ in these fields either — he excelled in each of them marvelously. That is why I insist we visit the Benjamin Franklin Museum in Philadelphia today!
At the Benjamin Franklin Museum, visitors have the opportunity to examine his accomplishments. There is also a glimpse of his life as an ordinary person. I think this museum in Philadelphia gets ‘kudos’. First, there is its highly unique layout. Each room in the museum is meant to reflect a certain aspect of Franklin’s personality (rebelliousness, strategic, curious, for example.)
The Benjamin Franklin Museum is also interesting in that it marries both the concepts of being a ‘traditional’ and “interactive” museum. Here, the guests can look at historic artifacts beneath glass. However, it’s also interactive. We can gain a better understanding of, say, scientific concepts behind Franklin’s inventions.
While his original home is no longer here, guests can get a sense for the size of it by taking a look at the steel ‘ghost beams’ outside of the Benjamin Franklin Museum in Philadelphia. There are even areas where visitors can peer down and see original brick.
