Whether you’re visiting Quebec City in the dog days of summer or in the depths of winter, the Hotel du Vieux is quite possibly the coziest and most relaxing place to stay. Without a doubt, it goes down as a place that I’d love to return to over and over. Evidently, I’m not the only one as it was recently ranked as Best of the Best Places to Stay in Quebec City on Trip Advisor.
It’s Eco Friendly and Ethical.
This hotel is entirely carbon neutral. In fact, Planetair has given it Gold Standard credits for offsetting its Greenhouse Gas Emissions for full hotel operations. In addition, it’s won several awards such as the Green Leadership Award and Energy and Environment Award.
There are TWO green rooftops where organic produce is grown and used in the dishes at the hotel’s restaurant.
A few other cool facts — no plastic bottles can’t be used in the hotel. Plus, 95% of the hotel uses energy efficient lighting, and they are part of the Urban Honey project. There are beehives on their rooftop gardens far away from areas that use insecticides and harmful GMOs. All of the furniture in the hotel is crafted by local artisans, so apparently, ‘locally sourced’ doesn’t just apply to food, but also, materials for furnishings.
Location, Location, Location.
Hotel du Vieux is located steps away from the historical ramparts, picturesque hot chocolate and ice cream shops, rocking bars with live music, and top notch restaurants. There’s so much to do within walking distance that you’ll never be bored.
This was really nice because we didn’t have to worry about taking the car out and looking for parking. For days where you really just want to relax, but don’t want to waste the day in bed — you can take a leisurely stroll down the street and see SO much that makes you feel like you actually accomplished some sightseeing.
It’s Cozy.
From the friendly faces of the check in staff to cozy reading room next to the lobby, complete with a fireplace and comfy couches — this place is ‘hygge’ heaven.
And it doesn’t stop there.
The hotel room comes with heated floors and a bed that absolutely devours you in its softness after a day of exploring and sightseeing. If you’re feeling snuggly or have some rain on your trip — don’t fret. Draw a hot bath in the spacious tub and read a book. OR, rent a movie from the front desk where the attendant will pop you a complimentary bowl of popcorn with your choice of film.
